CRJU 496 - Seminar: Critical Issues in Crime and Justice  - Prerequisite changed to: Senior standing and CRJU 330. Course description changed to: This course is designed to provide graduating criminal justice majors with a capstone experience, which emphasizes integration of knowledge and skills acquired throughout the criminal justice curriculum. Using an interdisciplinary lens, students analyze critical issues of diversity, inequality and power related to crime and justice. The seminar will require students to demonstrate: 1) comprehensive knowledge of the field of criminal justice; 2) critical thinking skills; 3) effectiveness in oral and written communication; 4) awareness of ethical issues; and 5) knowledge of data sources and the ability to apply criminal justice related information and research.

The course focuses on literary genres and forms within their historical and cultural contexts. Special attention is given to epic poetry, drama, lyric, religious narratives, and philosophical dialogues. Texts studied may include selections from the following: Epic of Gilgamesh; the Hebrew and Christian Bible; Greek and Latin epic poetry, drama, and lyric; the Bhagavad-Gita; Confucius’ Analects; the Qur’an’ Augustine’s Confessions; Dante’s Divine Comedy; the 1001 Nights. 

ENGL 254 - Literature for Elementary Education Majors  - Course title changed to: Literary Interpretation for Elementary Education Majors; Course description changed to: This course introduces students to the techniques of close reading and literary analysis at the heart of reading literature. Students will read and analyze texts from a variety of genres geared to a diverse range of ages and reading levels. The course will also engage with principles of Critical Literacy Theory, such as: exploring how reading and writing take shape in networks of power; providing opportunities for reflection, action and transformation; focusing on a problem and its complexity; and examining a topic from multiple perspectives.
