Criminal Justice, Racial and Social Justice Concentration, BS

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Academic Programs

The Racial and Social Justice concentration allows Criminal Justice majors to develop a holistic awareness of how social, political and historical forces have influenced the law as well as criminal legal institutions and practices. With an emphasis on historical and contemporary racial inequities, students will examine how various forms of structural inequality and social conflicts have consistently intersected with the criminal legal system, shaping institutional processes, case outcomes, and effects on communities and society. The concentration introduces a variety of theoretical perspectives and practical skills that will equip students with the analytical and research tools necessary for understanding and exploring a range of issues related to inequality, power, law, crime, justice and social change. The concentration will prepare students for further study in graduate or law schools, for careers in criminal justice, social services, non-profits, or policy advocacy, and for meaningful engagement with the world as critically informed citizens.
