BIOL 434 - Biological Electron Microscopy(3 credits) Prerequisite: BIOL 200 with a minimum grade of “C-” or consent of instructor An introduction to the techniques of tissue preparation including fixation, dehydration and embedment procedures, followed by sectioning and staining, practical use of the electron microscope and interpretation of electron photomicrographs is provided. Basic principles of tissue preparation and applications of electron microscopy will be stressed. One hour of lecture and one four-hour laboratory period weekly. Offered spring semester. May be taken for graduate-level credit.
