ANTH 331 - Power, Politics and Culture(3 credits) Prerequisite: ANTH 100 or consent of instructor This course examines political processes in state and “stateless” societies, focusing on the development of political forms in foraging, pastoral, agricultural and industrial societies, mainly in the developing world. The idea that “politics” exists as a set of practices tied to power that can be observed through anthropological methods will be addressed, along with the development of the subfield of political anthropology itself. Offered alternate years. (CGCL; CMCL; CSOC)
