CRJU 571 - Sexual Assault, Offenders and Policy(3 credits) Prerequisite: CRJU 500, which may be taken concurrently This course explores the historical evolution of sex crimes. Topics include the age of consent, prostitution, anti-sodomy laws, stranger rape, “sexting,” date rape and sex-offender registration. The course will also examine the impact of sexual assault on victims and offenders, as well as the criminal justice system’s response and the role of policymakers and advocacy groups in the formulation and enforcement of sex crime laws. Graduate students will be expected to demonstrate understanding of a specialized area of sexual violence (e.g., rape in the military, offender treatment, etc.).
