Department: Elementary and Early Childhood Education
The graduate reading program offers the degree of Master of Education with a specialty in reading. Program learning experiences and outcomes are designed to meet the 2017 Standards for Reading Specialists and Literacy Coaches from the International Literacy Association (ILA). Candidates must complete all the following course requirements and program requirements. This is a non-Massachusetts licensure program and does not lead to endorsement by the university. This option is ideal for candidates from out-of-state who would like to expand their literacy knowledge and possibly seek licensure/certification in their state. Candidates should check with their own state’s licensing board for regulationa about adding the reading specialist licensure/certification.

Admission Requirements
- Possession of a Bachelor’s degree
- A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 unless the candidate has completed a Master’s degree
- Three letters of recommendation
- Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate course work
- Personal statement
NOTE: This program is not a Massachusetts licensing program. It is intended for candidates from out-of-state candidates. Required courses (30 credits)
