The Graduate Program offers the Educational Specialist Degree (EdS) in Reading – Non-Licensure track. This 33-credit program is offered to cohort groups who move through the entire program together and prepares candidates to assume the literacy leadership responsibilities of both a reading specialist and literacy coach for a school/school district.
Program learning experiences and outcomes are designed to meet the 2017 Standards for Reading Specialists and Literacy Coaches from the International Literacy Association (ILA). Additionally, the program addresses the Professional Standards for Teachers and Subject Matter Knowledge Guidelines for Reading Specialists from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Admission Requirements
- A master’s degree from an accredited college or university
- A minimum graduate GPA of 3.0
- Three letters of recommendation (at least one from an educator supervisor and one that is preferred from a professor in their master’s degree program)
- Interview with a graduate reading faculty member(s)
- Eligible or possession of an active Massachusetts State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (MA DESE) initial or professional teaching license
- Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate course work
