Department: Anthropology  

The Anthropology for Educators concentration offers rigorous preparation in course work across the three subfields of anthropology offered by our department: cultural anthropology, biological anthropology and archaeology. Students of anthropology practice social science, humanities and natural science, learning the methodologies of all the subfields in the introductory courses. As a broad, integrative discipline focused on human cultural diversity globally from deep time into the present, anthropology is ideal preparation for classroom teachers including generalists in the lower grades and social studies in higher grades. The Anthropology for Educators concentration is available as a second major only for students majoring in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. Childhood Studies majors and Special Education majors may also use this concentration as a second major. Should a student drop these majors, students can apply their credits toward a Cultural Anthropology BA by adding ANTH 400 - Seminar: Anthropological Theory  as well as three additional upper-level courses either from the Cultural Anthropology concentration or cognate courses from their completed course work in education.
