Department: Elementary and Early Childhood Education

This degree program is designed for persons who hold initial licensure in elementary education (grades 1-6) and are seeking professional licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The program is designed to meet the “appropriate master’s degree” requirement, which is part of the criteria for professional stage licensure as set forth in the most recent MA DESE licensure regulations. The focus of this concentration is on building teacher content knowledge of STEM education concepts and strategies to support learners in the classroom. Emphasis is on practical application of best practices for STEM education, highlighting hands-on learning and real-world connections.

Admission Requirements

A minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.8 based upon four years of work or a 3.0 undergraduate GPA based upon course work completed in the junior and senior years
Transcripts of all undergraduate courses
Evidence of passing scores for the MTELs^® that were required for the applicant’s initial teaching license in Massachusetts prior to taking graduate level courses in the concentration
Undergraduate candidates will file an application for Graduate Admission in the semester the candidate is in the professional “block” of education courses (this applies only to students declared in the Double Degree program).

Electives (15 credits)

Complete five graduate courses (400-level U/G or 500-level), approved by the program advisor. Four of the five electives must include a focus of the concentration, from the list below. Courses not on the pre-approved list must be approved by your advisor or the program coordinator.

Exit requirement
