Global Languages and Cultures, Undergraduate Certificate

The Global Languages and Cultures Certificate is a program designed for undergraduate students from any academic discipline, cultural, and/or linguistic background and for non-degree seeking individuals who want to gain practical working knowledge of one or more foreign languages. 

The program provides students with the training to cultivate a global citizenship perspective and become engaged international citizens who enlist foreign language skills and global cultural knowledge to succeed in a variety of careers and intellectual disciplines in an increasingly globalized world.

The program delivers a balanced foundation of knowledge and skills in a variety of language courses offered. Practicum, Study Tours/Travel Courses, as well as Independent/Directed Study courses may be used with permission of the GL&L Department Chair.

Admission requirements


Degree-seeking undergraduate students from any academic discipline may submit a program of study declaration form to apply at any time during the year.

Non-degree seeking applicants will complete the BSU application form.

International students’ admission will be coordinated with the Minnock Institute of Global Engagement.

Course requirements (12 credits)


The Global Languages and Cultures Certificate will be awarded for the student successfully completing four language courses from the following list below:
