Public Relations, MA

The Master of Arts in Public Relations is an online program that provides students with a core liberal arts education that emphasizes advanced knowledge of public relations theory and professional strategic communication skills. It prepares intellectually open and aware lifelong communicators who engage with local, regional and global communities and creates ethically grounded workforce leaders for the Public Relations field.

Admission Requirements


Standard Admission Requirements

  • A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 based upon four years of course work or a 3.0 undergraduate GPA based upon work completed in junior and senior years
  • Completed application form
  • Three letters of recommendation, with preference given to academic letters of reference
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate course work
  • Resumé
  • A 450-500-word statement of purpose, including reasons for pursuing graduate work in this field and specific interest and experiences in this field

Bridgewater State University offers students enrolled in the BA in Communication Studies program the opportunity for early acceptance into the MA program.

Early Acceptance Application Requirements  

The Early Acceptance MA in Public Relations Program is designed for current undergraduates at Bridgewater State University who would like to earn BOTH an undergraduate degree and MA in PR degree in as little as 5 years. Students accepted into this program can take up to three (3) graduate courses at the undergraduate tuition rate and credits will be applied toward both their undergraduate and MA in Public Relations degrees, saving both time and money. 

  • BSU undergraduates with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 based upon four years of course work or a 3.0 undergraduate GPA based upon work completed in junior and senior years. 
  • Three foundation courses (minimum grade of “B-“) are required (waived if completed in prior course work): 

   COMM 226 - Public Relations Principles  
   COMM 312 - Public Relations Writing  
   COMM 337 - Public Relations Research and Measurement       

  • Completed application form 
  • Three letters of recommendation, with preference given to academic letters of reference 
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate course work 
  • Resumé demonstrating potential for leadership and academic achievement made evident by activities during undergraduate public relations, communication or other relevant studies or professional career
  • A 450-500-word statement of purpose, including reasons for pursuing graduate work in this field and specific interest and experiences in this field
