Department: Physics, Photonics, and Optical Engineering
The BS in Photonics and Optical Engineering (PHOE) will enable students to analyze and design optical and laser systems, including photonics integrated circuits, that have a wide range of applications including manufacturing, healthcare, sensors, defense, and telecommunication. Students will be well prepared for work in industry, manufacturing, and advanced graduate studies in photonics or optical engineering. Graduates will be prepared to work as engineers in MA and national companies, with training to design solutions to problems and oversee advanced manufacturing processes. Engineering graduates will have specific content knowledge related to the manufacture and use of optical devices including laser systems, and photonic integrated circuits within the context of telecommunications and sensing technology.
