Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Minor

The TESOL minor is designed for undergraduate students and prepares them to teach English as a second/foreign language in schools, language centers, colleges and community organizations in the U.S. and internationally. The TESOL minor delivers a balanced foundation of theory, knowledge, skills and professional tools, and includes such domains as strategies for multilingual learners, linguistics for English as a Second/Foreign Language (ESL/EFL), cultural issues in TESL/TEFL, and methodology in TESL/TEFL. This minor does not lead to licensure as an educator by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Electives (6 credits)
Electives focus on cultural and/or multicultural issues and teaching and/or communicating with culturally and linguistically diverse individuals. They provide a different lens and enrich students’ understanding in the chosen relevant area.
Complete one course selected from the TESL courses, and one course from the other disciplines:
