Spanish, Elementary Education Concentration, BA

The Spanish Elementary Education Concentration prepares students to use their knowledge of the Spanish language and culture with school-age children and adolescents. Students are exposed to a broad range of foreign language concepts including basic foundational knowledge, oral and written expression, and Spanish culture and civilization through study of a second language, film, literature, and linguistics in an active learning and teaching environment. The concentration facilitates the broadening of students’ global perspectives and allows them to understand and experience the similarities and differences across languages and cultures. The goal of this concentration is to enable students to use the knowledge gleaned from this concentration to improve their teaching and to work more effectively with their students, families, and members of the regional and global community.

The Spanish Elementary Education Concentration is only available as a second major for students majoring in Elementary Education. This program is not designed for students seeking certification to teach Spanish at the elementary level.
