Native American and Indigenous Studies Minor


The Native American and Indigenous Studies minor is an interdisciplinary minor which aims to introduce students to Native American and Indigenous groups and cultural practices; history, theory and cultural analyses of Native American and Indigenous cultures; and opportunities for engaged learning and community service among Native American and Indigenous groups. Students will explore the following: 1) theoretical and practical approaches in Native American and Indigenous Studies; 2) interdisciplinary perspectives in Native American and Indigenous Studies; 3) issues of cultural identity from the perspectives of Native American and Indigenous peoples; 4) discrimination, prejudice and other inequalities against Native American and Indigenous groups; and 5) opportunities to learn about services, interventions, and civic engagement in addressing respect, civility and social justice issues.

Course Requirements


Students must complete 18 credits toward the minor as outlined below.

Students must complete at least nine (9) credits in Group A, six (6) credits in Group B, plus a three-credit (3) Capstone Experience. Group A courses beyond the nine (9) required credits can also be used as electives. Other courses, including second year seminars, may be approved by the program coordinator.
