POLI 571 - Foundations of Civic and Nonprofit Theory and Administration(3 credits) Prerequisite: POLI 501, which may be taken concurrently; or consent of instructor and MPA program coordinator This course addresses the historical and philosophical roots of what is alternatively called the third, voluntary or nonprofit sector. It also addresses the structure of the sector and current and future trends that influence it. Its purpose is to provide an overview of the issues and trends within the sector in order to lay a strong foundation of knowledge for those who are pursuing a career in nonprofit organizations and/or work in fields that intersect with nonprofit organizations.
