GEOG 221 - Meteorology(4 credits) Prerequisite: Any 100-level natural science (BIOL, CHEM, GEOG, GEOL, PHYS) course or AVSC 107 or AVSC 110 This course introduces the basic atmospheric processes and important properties of the Earth’s surface that create changeable patterns. Students will use state-of-the-art instrumentation to practice observing weather and learn the essentials of reading and forecasting with weather maps. Lectures and laboratoreis will focus on energy transfer, clouds, wind patterns, fronts, jet streams, precipitation, and various types of weather with impacts on society ranging from thunderstorms to hurricanes. Three hours of lecture and one two-hour laboratory period weekly. Offered fall semester. (CNSL; CQUR)
