CHEM 343 - Organic Chemistry I(4 credits) Prerequisite: CHEM 142 with a minimum grade of “C-“ An introductory course in organic chemistry organized in terms of the structure and transformations of organic molecules. This course will focus specifically on chemical bonding, physical properties, nomenclature, isomerism, three dimensional structure, stereochemistry, substitution and elimination reaction mechanisms of organic molecules. The laboratory must be taken concurrently with CHEM 343 and includes an introduction to organic laboratory techniques for the preparation, purification and characterization of organic substances. Three hours of lecture and four hours of laboratory weekly. Offered fall semester and summer session.
