CNMH 528 - Counseling Theories and Techniques for Mental Health Counseling(3 credits) This course will introduce the Mental Health Counseling student to the major counseling theories and will infuse practical application of the techniques and skills associated with each theory. These theories will be examined with respect to their overall worldview and practice in the context of clinical settings. In addition to theories, a secondary course emphasis will be on counselor self-reflection and self-awareness as well as working with individual clients. Additional areas that will be infused in the course include: culture and other contextual factors, diversity in a broad context, ecological systems, ethical considerations and prevention strategies.
