HIST 131 - Making the World: to 1500

This course surveys major states, empires and cultures to appear from the earliest complex societies until the beginning of Western expansion around 1500 C.E. Topics include forms of social hierarchy and inequality; major intellectual and spiritual traditions in China, India, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean world; and the beginnings of commercial and cultural exchange between different parts of the world.
