ANTH 331 - Power, Politics and Culture(3 credits) Prerequisite: ANTH 100 or consent of instructor This course examines political processes in state and “stateless” societies, exploring how dynamics of power are harnessed both positively and negatively to have an impact on questions of justice, social inequality, conflict, human rights, gender, ethnicity, and nationalism. “Politics” is taken as a set of practices tied to power that can be observed through anthropological methods of observation and inquiry. The course also examines the “anthropology of politics” itself and the development of the political anthropology subfield. Offered alternate years. (CDSJ; CSOC)
