PHIL 239 - Property, Power and Subjugation

(3 credits)
Prerequisite: One 100-level, three credit course in philosophy or CRIT 111
What is property? And what is property’s relation to civil society, violence and human flourishing? Is property something to be affirmed or rejected? Perfected or abandoned? In an attempt to closely analyze these questions and others, this course turns its attention to philosophical conceptions, defenses and critiques of the notion of property, as well as its historical development through Europe, the United States and their colonies. Offered alternate years. (CHUM)
