CRJU 516 - Qualitative Methodology

(3 credits)
Prerequisite: CRJU 500 and CRJU 510
This course provides an overview of qualitative research methods, epistemologies and data analysis, as they are used in studies of crime, law and the criminal legal system. Students will be introduced to several qualitative methods, including ethnography, in-depth interviewing and archival research, and will learn the basics of qualitative coding. Issues of research design, researcher positionality, and the ethics of doing engaged and unobtrusive research will also be covered. Offered alternate years.
