PHIL 406 - Applied Ethics

(3 credits)
Prerequisite: Two courses in philosophy at or above the 200 level; or consent of instructor
This course will engage students in the study, analysis and evaluation of several contemporary ethical issues addressed through the intersection of ethical theories and real-world problems. Students will gain understanding of the factual groundings of contemporary debates; develop proficiency in conceptual analysis; attain familiarity with ethical theories and their application; and advance their argumentation skills. Topics may include genetic enhancement, organ markets, the right to sex, sports doping, the permissibility of procreation, refugees, pornography and others. Offered alternate years.
