TESL 206 - Assessment of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Learners

(3 credits)
This course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for selecting, adapting, designing and interpreting assessments for multilingual learners. The course will include discussion of appropriate assessment procedures for assessing multilingual, culturally diverse students, as well as practice interpreting assessment results, including qualitative and quantitative data, and planning future instruction and/or program placement based on assessment results. Participants will learn to assess multilingual learners’ language proficiency and discuss validity, reliability and bias in assessment of culturally and linguistically diverse students.
