PHED 267 - Theory and Practice of Latin Social Dance

This semester-long course will offer an introduction to the major dances of the Caribbean: Mambo and Guaracha (both commonly known as Salsa), Merengue, Cha Cha Cha and Bachata. These dances will be taught in the modern style that is now popular in social settings. There will be a focus on the concepts of lead and follow, step patterns and turn patterns. Throughout, the instructor will integrate a discussion of the historical and cultural significance of these dances and how they have come to enjoy a worldwide following. (Formerly DANP 259)
