GEOG 214 - Remote Sensing of the Environment

(3 credits)
Prerequisite: One core curriculum requirement in Foundations of Mathematical Reasoning (CMAR)
The acquisition of remotely sensed data permits a rapid, efficient manner for analysis and decision-making for environmental research and resource management. This course will explore data collection and analysis techniques for remotely-sensed data acquired for satellite and air-borne platforms including unmanned aerial systems (UAS) or drones. Digital-image-processing techniques such as rectification and restoration, image enhancement and classification and data merging are covered. The course is taught as a combination of lectures and computer laboratory time devoted to hands-on use of remote-sensing software. Offered annually. (Formerly GEOG 314) (CNSN; CQUR)
