ENGL 254 - Literary Interpretation for Elementary Education Majors(3 credits) Prerequisite: ENGL 102 This course introduces students to the techniques of close reading and literary analysis at the heart of reading literature. Students will read and analyze texts from a variety of genres geared to a diverse range of ages and reading levels. The course will also engage with principles of Critical Literacy Theory, such as: exploring how reading and writing take shape in networks of power; providing opportunities for reflection, action and transformation; focusing on a problem and its complexity; and examining a topic from multiple perspectives.
