CRJU 230 - Immigration and Justice

(3 credits)
This course provides an overview of empirical research and theories describing the relationship between immigration, crime and victimization at the individual and community level. Students will also learn about the key institutions comprising the American immigration system such as the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Border Patrol, Immigration Courts, Detention and Deportation, learn how they shape the lives of immigrants and U.S. citizens, and compare them to criminal justice institutions. The class will also touch on several questions surrounding immigration law, intersections between immigration and criminal law, and assess the need for immigration law reform.
