READ 643 - Coaching Techniques and Practices(3 credits) Prerequisite: Matriculation in EdS in Reading; restricted to cohort members In this course, candidates explore and learn various coaching practices and techniques that are researched-based for supporting teacher development. Candidates gain knowledge of coaching frameworks and adult learning theories that are used for developing and supporting teacher-colleagues in achieving their professional goals. Application of coaching practices, techniques and frameworks will be demonstrated in a coaching cycle that the candidate plans and implements with one teacher-colleague. Candidates will reflect on their coaching experiences by discussing with classmates and their school-based administrator the benefits and challenges of working with teacher-colleagues. Additionally, candidates continue to develop their understanding of the literacy coach role through self-study. Offered fall and spring semesters.
