MATH 512 - Abstract Algebra II(3 credits)
Prerequisite: Admission to the MS program in Mathematics or consent of instructor
This course extends the study of algebraic structures from groups to both rings and fields, with particular emphasis on polynomial rings and number fields. Topics include rings and ideals, field extensions and automorphisms, Galois theory, insolubility of the quintic and the fundamental theorem of algebra. Offered spring semester.
