ENGL 352 - 19th-Century American Theater Culture(3 credits) Prerequisite: ENGL 101; and ENGL 102; and either ENGL 203 and ENGL 234, or THEA 220 This course examines popular theatrical contributions to 19th century American culture and considers drama and theatre as productive sites for reading American cultural history. Plays studied may include Metamora, Fashion, A Glance at New York, The Drunkard, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Leah the Forsaken, The Black Crook, The Octoroon, and others. Offered alternate years.
