READ 680 - Research Project in Exemplary Literacy Practice(3 credits) Prerequisite: Matriculation in EdS in Reading; restricted to cohort members Literacy coaches are expected to provide a vision and plan for literacy at their school or district. Literacy coaches should access, analyze and evaluate evidence-based research in literacy; curriculum; assessment and instruction; diversity, equity and inclusive practices; and classroom environments. In this course, students will engage with relevant theoretical and empirical literature regarding organizations, change and leadership and apply those pieces of literature to issues of professional practice within their current professional settings and in their own proposed, empirical work. In collaboration with teacher-colleagues, administrators and the community, the candidate will develop a research project that identifies a gap in performance at the school or district level and will identify ways to close that gap. Candidates develop a fundamental understanding of the methodology, data collection procedures, and analysis techniques that are central to implementing their research project and closing the identified gap at their school or district.
