ELED 344 - Critical Literacies in the Elementary Classroom: Narrative Writing and Storytelling in History and the Social Sciences

(3 credits)
Prerequisites: ELED 305 and ELED 314 and ELED 315
Corequisites: ELED 360 and ELED 375

Employing a critical stance and a cross-disciplinary approach, this course will provide students with practical, intellectually challenging training experiences in the creation of writing workshop environments, in which narrative storytelling, with an anti-racist lens, is continually modeled and assessed. Subject matter knowledge in history and the social sciences, as it applies to the most recent Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for History and Social Science and the International Literacy Association Standards for Literacy Professionals, will be investigated, identified and addressed in the context of developing pedagogical and subject matter knowledge and competence. Offered fall and spring semesters.
