READ 670 - Seminar for Advanced Studies in Literacy

(3 credits)
Prerequisite: Matriculation in EdS in Reading; restricted to cohort members
The EdS in Reading program is designed to bring participating educators to a common understanding of and appreciation for overseeing whole-school/district literacy curriculums. Candidates in this course will examine and evaluate a school or district curriculum through a theoretical lens to determine aspects of the curriculum that are or are not supported by research and theory. Furthermore, candidates will reexamine and reevaluate their curriculum through three additional lenses to determine how well the curriculum (a) is connected or not connected with instruction and assessment; (b) reflects practices that support diversity, equity and inclusion; and (c) how it impacts the design of the classroom environment. Based on the candidate’s examination and evaluation of the curriculum, the candidate will provide recommendations for adapting and revising the curriculum for (a) instructional practices and assessment measures; (b) diversity, equity and inclusion; and (c) the classroom environment that reflects current research and best practices.
