HIST 465 - African Americans, Race and American History(3 credits) Prerequisite: Any two of the following courses: HIST 111, HIST 112, HIST 131, HIST 132, HIST 221, HIST 222; or consent of instructor This course provides an in-depth study of the history of African Americans from 1600 to the present. Topics may include the Atlantic slave trade; anti-slavery movements; the Civil War; Reconstruction; the Great Migration; the Harlem Renaissance; and the Civil Rights, Black Power and Black Lives Matter movements. Throughout the course, emphasis will be placed on African Americans’ diverse participation in all aspects of American life, including politics, culture, religion, education and the military. Offered alternate years. May be taken for graduate-level credit.
