HIST 427 - The British Atlantic World: 1500-1800(3 credits) Prerequisites: Any two of the following courses: HIST 111, HIST 112, HIST 131, HIST 132, HIST 221, HIST 222; or consent of instructor This course looks at how people from Europe, Africa and the Americas came together in the early modern period, changing the worlds they knew and forging new relationships and institutions. This course will focus on several themes present in the Atlantic world, including cultural encounters, indentured servitude and slavery, commerce and trade, marginal characters, religion and political revolution. Each theme will be covered in a separate section of the class that combines lectures with secondary and primary sources. May be taken for graduate-level credit.
