ENGL 305 - History of the English Language(3 credits) Prerequisite: ENGL 102 This course considers the development of English from its Indo-European origins to its present status as a de facto international language. It traces the historical, literary and philological features of English in the Anglo-Saxon, Anglo-Norman, Early Modern and Modern periods; special attention is also paid to the developments of American English as well as to the different varieties of English spoken around the globe.
