ELED 567 - Mathematics for Practicing Teachers: PreK-Grade 6(3 credits) The Massachusetts Curriculum Framework calls for math to be taught with coherence, focus, rigor and clarity, with the goal of improving learning progressions across grades. In order to teach this way, practicing PreK-grade 6 educators need to be secure in their own understanding of the concepts and procedures they teach. Participants in this course will experience mathematical concepts from a multitude of perspectives and use a variety of modeling strategies to deepen and broaden their understanding. Participants will learn why standard computational algorithms work the way they do and the relationship between conceptual understanding and computational fluency.
