CNGC 582 - Preventive Counseling(3 credits) Prerequisite: Matriculation in the MEd or CAGS or postmaster’s program in counseling; or consent of instructor This course is for the counseling student who intends to work in mental health PreK-12 settings and who is seeking licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor. It will explore the wide variety of factors in society and the community that affect the well-being of students in PreK-12 settings. Emphasis will be on addressing human problems through community counseling and consultation within a framework of multiculturalism, professional standards and equity, and using technology to enhance the development and delivery of school-based counseling interventions. Topics include professional identity, the ASCA Model Framework for delivery of services and programs in schools, prevention, outreach programming and special education. Offered periodically.
