ARTS 316 - Photography III(3 credits) Prerequisite: ARTS 104 and ARTS 125 and ARTS 130 and ARTS 140 and ARTS 216 and ARTS 217; and either ARTH 103 or ARTH 104; or consent of instructor In this course, students develop several individually driven projects based on their ideas and interests. Attention is given to conceptual development and an advanced level of craft. Students will be introduced to the 4x5 large-format camera and studio lighting techniques, working between analog and digital processes. Emphasis is given to the flexibility of the photographic image, including its multimedia applications. Readings, museum/gallery visits, lecture and discussion help to put work in context. Students articulate the ideas and influences behind their work in an artist statement. Cameras and tripods are available for checkout but it is recommended for students to own a digital and/or film camera with manual features and a tripod. Offered fall semester. Additional fee required.
