MUSC 175 - Basic Theory and Musicianship

(3 credits)
This course serves as the first offering in the Department of Music’s theory sequence. Course materials will present the basics of music literacy, focusing on how to read and notate music, as well as an introduction to basic musicianship skills. Students learn to recognize and write the symbols of the musical language, while mastering concepts of pitch, rhythm, harmony, meter (simple and compound), scale and key (major and minor), intervals and triads. Evaluations are based on both written and practical work. Offered fall semester. (CFPA; CQUR)
