PHED 558 - Teaching Advanced Tennis Techniques

Prerequisite: Matriculation in the Professional Tennis Management Graduate Certificate program or the MS in Physical Education, Professional Tennis Management and Coaching concentration or consent of DGCE chairperson

This course is an in-depth examination of the fundamental teaching skills necessary to provide advanced tennis instruction to children and adults across a range of experience levels and ability status. Students will apply scientific reasoning, implement advanced sport skill progressions and instructional cues, and be able to give individual and group feedback to children and adults who play tennis at an advanced level. Emphasis will be placed on the following: the use of appropriate coaching techniques, advanced tennis terminology and game strategies, the creation of age-appropriate lessons and practice sessions, and the implementation of advanced differentiated learning techniques when working with special populations. Offered summer session.
