SOCI 337 - Environmental Sociology(3 credits) Prerequisite: SOCI 102 and SOCI 300; or consent of instructor Environmental sociology is the study of how complex social systems interact with complex environmental systems (ecosystems). In this writing-intensive course, we will use a sociological lens to consider issues such as: How do we define nature and what effects do those definitions have on how we treat it?; Why do natural disasters or climatic changes effect groups of people differently?; How do poverty, race and power impact the natural world?; and What are people around the world doing to change how we use and abuse the environments in which we live?
