ANTH 212 - Africa Through Film(3 credits) This course examines current socio-cultural, political and economic issues pertaining to Africa and its people using documentary films, video clips, ethnographies and other visual media. Emphasis will be on the use of contemporary media to address important issues pertaining to African people’s lives, such as the HIV/AIDS pandemic, poverty, social problems, community development, economic resources, genocide, conflicts and other forms of violence, climate change and politics. In this course, visual media will be used as a tool to educate students on local and global issues relevant to the African continent. Offered alternate years. (CGCL; CMCL; CSOC; CWRT)
