The primary purpose of this course is to critically evaluate theories, research and/or treatments of abnormal behavior. Paradigms for understanding mental disorders, such as the sociocultural model, diathesis-stress model, and the biopsychosocial model will be explored. Students will learn how the major types of disorders are defined and classified. Students will also build empathy and sensitivity toward people suffering from psychological disorders. Offered fall, spring, summer.
