GEOG 171 - Global Inequity(3 credits) Students apply geographic principles to learning about regions of the world that are often described in terms of historic disadvantages, including Latin America, Africa and parts of Asia. The world economy is shaped by colonial patterns of extraction and accumulation that continue in the modern era. In all regions of the world, however, the cultural landscape is shaped by the patterns of language, food ways and belief. These patterns result from tradition and innovation as well as trade and migration. By better understanding factors that unite as well as factors that divide, students completing this course are better prepared to advance global goals of social, economic and environmental justice. Offered fall, spring, summer. (CGCL; CMCL; CSOC)
