ELED 120 - Child Study in the Early Childhood and Elementary Education Classroom(3 credits) This course is designed for students interested in the integrated knowledge of child development, classroom behaviors of children and how research findings are applied to teaching and learning environments. Content to be covered includes child development theories and research, diversity in the classroom, culturally responsive teaching and essential understandings of anti-racist teaching with a focus on development of racial identity, and the roles and responsibilities of school faculty and staff in meeting children’s developmental needs. Students will learn about the physical, social, emotional, cognitive and linguistic development and learning characteristics of children, birth through adolescence. This course requires up to 20 hours of observation in an elementary school, and the school may request a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI).
