ECED 414 - Literacy and Language for Developing and Transitional Readers and Writers

Prerequisite: ECED 342; ECED 361; and ECED 375
Corequisite: ECED 420; ECED 430; and ECED 450

This course will examine the development of lessons and curriculum fore the teaching of literacy (reading, writing, speaking, and listening). Emphasis will be placed on the methodologies of delivering whole-class reading and writing instruction that is based on literacy assessment data in a supervised early childhood pre-practicum setting. Continuing to explore Critical Literacy as the overarching theoretical framework, students will understand how to incorporate topics such as equity, diversity, and social emotional awareness as part of their literacy instruction. This course will also help students understand disciplinary literacy as a way of preparing PreK-2 students for reading and writing the various subject areas. Offered fall and spring semesters.
