LASP 245 - Spanish Culture & Language for Social Work(3 credits) Prerequisite: LASP 165 or consent of instructor The objective of this course is to assist social work students in understanding how Spanish language and cultural knowlege interacts with the complexities of micro and macro system level interactions in health care settings. Students will become knowledgeable about how social workers can best support Latinx culture and customs across different life stages and in different health care settings, developing skills in engagement, assessment, intervention planning and implementation, and practice evaluation. Because the populations served in primary care settings span the spectrum of severity in both the physical and behavioral health dimensions, students will develop competencies in engaging and supporting patients across a range of health conditions, with a focus on health issues in a Spanish speaking population. Offered annually. (CGCL; CMCL)
